Join Pastor Jim Cymbala for today’s daily devotional from Zechariah 4:10. In this devotional, Pastor Cymbala reads an excerpt from his new book, Jesus Every Day. We live in a hyped-up world where bigger is better, but everything—even the small moments—matter to God. We shouldn’t be discouraged when we don’t see big things happening. God is always moving in our lives!

When our thoughts spiral, it never leads in a good direction. For example, we might think we're all alone. But how we think and feel are not reality—the truth for Christians is that God has promised never to leave us! Saying that we are alone goes against everything the Bible says! Let's rest today in knowing that we are never alone. God is always with us

Imagine having breakfast with the apostle Paul or grabbing coffee with Mary, the mother of Jesus! Who we spend our time with or show interest in reveals our character. Instead of spending all our time engrossed in social media, reality TV, and the news, let’s fill our hearts and minds with thoughts of Jesus Christ.

God is good all the time! In fact, He’s so good and faithful that we never have an excuse to stop thanking God. We are His children: “His love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 100:4–5). Let’s pray to be filled with thanks all day for the goodness of the Lord.

God, who created everything, is not far away. We can call out to Him! Let’s follow in the footsteps of revered Old Testament people like Moses, Aaron, and Samuel. They called on God, and He heard them. We don’t have to grasp every theological element of prayer—we can simply know that God answers prayers.

We have many reasons to sing joyfully to our Lord! God has the power to create and destroy worlds, yet He loves us as a mother tenderly loves her baby. He is gentle in His love and omnipotent in His power. There’s nothing too big for Him—anything we face, we can take to God in prayer and know that He will hear us! He is worthy of our every prayer, song, and praise.

Haven’t we all heard the saying “Hate the sin, love the sinner”? Though it may seem overused, there’s some gospel truth to it! Jesus is known for His undeniable, unexplainable love—yet He also hated the sin and wrong He saw on earth. Anyone who claims to love the Lord must, like Him, hate the evil in this world. Let’s be more like Jesus every day.

Relationships deteriorate without the reassurance of love. When was the last time you truly worshiped God and told Him you love Him? We sometimes get so caught up in working for the Lord that we’ve lost the ability to tell Him we love Him. The closest relationship in each of our lives should be the one with God our Father.

Each time of prayer and worship has to start with thanksgiving. We can bring God our wants and needs later in the prayer—we should start by thanking Him for who He is and all that He’s already done. Unthankfulness and unbelief are grievous offenses to a God who gave His Son for our salvation. There’s not a single promise God will break. Let’s live full of thanks and faith!

We’ve all been wronged, hurt, and—especially in today’s society—offended. Revenge always sounds like the best idea! But we Christians know that God is our Helper. He will right every wrong and avenge every hurt. We’re given a short time on this earth—instead of spending it full of anxiety and bitterness, let’s trust that the Lord will help us. God loves to help His children!
